Tantalizing Tuesday Tease: A nightmare reawakened

Tuesday is upon us once again and once you have read my offering if you would be so kind as to click the image above you will be whisked away top where all my friends are waiting with their teases for you.

Thank you

A nightmare reawakened

The first time I heard the story I was no more than five years old but had always assumed that's all it was, a fairy story invented by the parents of the town to keep us kids from wandering into the dense woods and becoming lost to them forever.
They tried to convince us they were telling the truth, asking us if we'd seen Mr. This or Mr. That lately, even though they knew we wouldn't have though because, although the reality was more likely to have been they had left town to find work in the city, they always told us they had last been seen wandering into the woods, in a trance, as if hypnotized by something just beyond the entrance.
Now, twenty years later, I was twenty-five, a detective with the city police force and had returned to follow up on reports three men had gone missing, in exactly the same way our parents used to tell us about, in the last two weeks and now I knew, for the first time in my life, I would have to enter the very same woods which had filled my childhood with nightmares.

Excellent, gripping work, Julez! There was so much tension, remorse, fear, and the challenge of having to deal with 20 years of dread. Great tease!

Chilling, gripping, and something worth expanding to in the story, when you can.
