Interview from The Crypt: Iris Deorre

INTERVIEW FROM THE CRYPT

Once again my creatures of the night, the doorway to The Crypt has been opened, and yet another victim has entered for us to feast on and today our feast is the exceptional Iris Deorre.

First of all I would just like to say welcome to The Crypt Iris and thank you for stopping by today.

So why don’t you introduce yourself to my creatures of the night and tell us a little about yourself.

Before I am a writer I am a Mum, which does take up a lot of my time. I also work freelance during the day so I’m like a woman on something from the minute I wake up to the minute I put my head down to sleep. My day goes something like this, 6am I’m up going over my writing; I’m always working on something. 7am hit my step machine for half an hour. 7:30 wake up the little girl to get ready for school. Then it’s time to hit the shower, downstairs for packed lunches and breakfast. Next we jump into the car and hit the morning traffic! Then I’m working for the rest of the day, 5:30 pick up time for my little girl, tea, homework, bed, for her and then it’s upstairs to write; which I’ll do until about midnight. That about sums up my life cycle really; we do occasionally take a holiday here and there.

When did you first begin to write? Was there a specific moment or did something happen to make you think ‘I could be a writer’?

I was seventeen when I began to write. I was going through a very bad time as teenagers do. I remember just lying on my bed with thoughts just spinning around my head not knowing what to do. It was in that moment I grabbed a piece of paper and began to write. I wrote a story about a teenager struggling with teenage life and trying to find her way through that trying time. It really helped me get out of the funk I was in. Later in my life I wrote short stories for my own entertainment then one day I decided to send one of my short stories to a women’s magazine. I didn’t even know I had been published until a cheque for £50 dropped through the letter box. There wasn’t a word from the publisher except for that cheque. When I tried to search for my story in the magazine it was no where to be found until three months later something amazing happened. I was visiting my Nan one afternoon and she told me she had a surprise for me, one of the members of her church handed her a magazine that had been donated. She said that she had recognised the name and wondered if it was me. Yes it was me! I was over the moon that I finally got to see my story in print.

What are you currently working on? Would you mind giving the readers a quick synopsis in 100 words or less?

I’m currently working on the second book to A New Breed, which is called A New Breed (The birth)

A child is about to be born with a very special gift. It’s Jacks job, who is a werewolf to stop those that want the child for evil. Even though Jack believes he has everything under control, nothing can prepare him for what happens as soon as the baby, Isis is born. Twists and turns, magic and time travel take Jack and Aiden to a dimension they’ve never been before.

Where do you draw your inspiration for your stories, characters and settings?

I’m a reader and a lot of ideas come from the books I read. I do quite a bit of research on the web. You will also find me at the library doing research. When I visit new places I always take a note book with me. I study the way other people talk, their mannerism. I also draw from my own experiences, how I experience life through my eyes and how I overcome obstacles gives inspiration to write.

Is there one particular genre you prefer writing in and is there a genre you would never attempt and if so why?

I love writing erotic horror, paranormal it’s just so me to be honest. I’m the type of person who loves to push boundaries and take things a little step further. The genre I would never attempt to write is science fiction. Things like Star Trek would never work for me. I wouldn’t even know where or how to begin to describe the settings of that world. Visually it’s great but I’m not sure I’d be able to bring science fiction to life on paper and that probably scares me the most.

If you weren’t a writer/ couldn’t write anymore what would you do?

If I wasn’t a writer I would be a singer. I think I have a good pair of lungs and can sing a note or two. I had a few singing lessons two years ago and once brought me daughter along. When she heard me sing she broke into tears, it really touched her. But I’m not one of those Xfactor shows, that just isn’t me. I love my privacy.  I used to sing in the church choir, something I didn’t really like as it was forced upon me – hence the rebellion – lol!  No seriously though I don’t think I would survive not being a writer. It’s who I am really.

If you could become a member of the opposite sex for 24 hours what would be the first thing you would do?

Look at how big my wand is! Only kidding. I’d probably move my very heavy couch and put it where I want it. Seeing how I’m not strong enough to do it myself. Honestly I’ve never really thought so this is just a random answer.

Which fantasy creature/being do you like the most?

I like fairies, Tooth Fairy (giggle). I also love Tinkerbell the fairy/pixie in Peterpan. The little fairy that loved Peterpan and got a little jealous when he took his attention away from her. They are small, cute and magical and sometimes mischievous.  We saw Peterpan at the theatre once and I guess I loved the magical innocence of the fairy.

If you could be your favourite fantasy figure what would be the first thing you would do?
I would fly into my daughter room and collect her tooth that fell out recently and replace it with a coin then sprinkle some fairy dust for sweet dreams. (I’ll let you on in a secret; I do that already except for the fairy dust) Then I would fly across the neighbourhood and collect all teeth that had come out that day and replace them with coins or is it notes these days? The freedom of being able to fly and be that tiny would be a wonderful thing!

What scares you the most?

CLOWNS!  Big red nose, permanent smile (Freaky) you just never know what they’re feel because they are always smiling, big red floppy shoes and the ridiculous outfit, never mind the big red hair (Shivers). Those dudes freak me out big time. I just don’t like them one bit.

Favourite film?

Ahhh, too many, not fair!  Shawshank redemption, Green mile both based on Novellas by the mighty Stephen King. But if I have to choose the movie that made me go out and buy the fan t-shirt and watch it more than once and even went out to buy the DVD that would be....Drum roll.... The Matrix. I loved, loved this movie it was crazy. Only the first one though. The amazing moves from Neo, the Oracle, Morpheus, just the sound of the names excites me. The best part is when Neo begins to believe in himself and realises he doesn’t need all the dramatics to defeat the agents.

Worst film you have ever seen?

Get this – Matrix Revolutions – seriously after the great beginning it should’ve only got better right? Wrong. I guess having high expectations only made it worse. This whole hype ended up into a big ball of nothing. I could no longer keep track of it and towards the end when this guy the so called creator of the Matrix babbles on about nothing (Yawn) for a while in the movie, it lost me there and then (The sound of Crickets!).  I just didn’t get it I was crushed and fan shirt found its place in the bin! Not really, it’s just had too many washes.

Favourite book?

Many but the book that has stayed with me has to be Wuthering heights. It was a book that drew me in, messed with my emotions to the point of making me angry. Never has a book made such an impression on me. I guess the dark character Heathcliff made me so angry that the book was a hard to put down. I also like that fact that it was written by a woman in a time that wouldn’t have considered or taken a woman writer seriously. Wuthering heights for me just brings the same universal question that we all seek, acceptance and acknowledgement. Everyone always asks the same thing whether it’s by their actions or none action and that is, Do you see me? Did you know I existed? Wuthering heights shows this behaviour so well it’s frightening. Because at the end of it all, all they all ever wanted was to be loved.

When you go shopping what is the one thing that you always HAVE to buy?

I have to buy a bottle of Rose. We do our shopping on a Thursday evening at ASDA and at the end of the list there is my bottle of wine. I stand there eyeing all the beautiful bottles of wine. But always end up taking the Black Tower brand. And my little girl never fails to pip ‘You still have a bottle of wine at home.’
‘I know my love.’ I smile. It’s always good to stock up just in case at some point we’re snowed in hah!

Going back to favourite film write an erotic scene featuring the main characters in 100 words or less.

Neo looks into Trinity’s eyes, their bodies naked, wet, breathing heavy. His cock hard her supple breasts brush up against his chest. Her hands travelled freely down his back and down towards his tense arse.
‘Promise you’ll never leave me.’
His lips pressed against hers, tongue dipped into her warm mouth, the wet juices flush from her throbbing pussy. ‘Promise.’ She muffles into him heavily.
‘I promise.’

And finally, just for a light hearted end to the interview.

What words would you want etched on your tombstone ?

Iris was a horny bitch who loved good wine, chocolate, strawberries and all things shiny... nah, scratch that. ‘Iris was a strong, independent woman who loved to live her life to the fullest. And boy did she live!’

Thank you for joining me today and I would like to wish you all the best in future endeavours.

Thank you so much for allowing me to stop at your blog. I love it by the way!

SYNOPSIS

The Whitby Ghost

Roy has a past he'd rather forget. To overcome it he takes his girlfriend Melisa to Whitby, the very place of his past that he is trying to forget. Roy believes it's the only way to move on and to forget it by moving on with his future, Melisa.

But something is lurking in Whitby, something that Melisa becomes sensitive to the minute they arrive. What she discovers is hard to swallow. What follows is a journey to the other side. Something she'd rather forget.

Will Melisa marry her boyfriend who refuses to talk about his past? Or will his past bring them closer?

Excerpt

Roy gazed around him and a sudden fear gripped him but he quickly shook it off. He could do this; besides it was a whole different place now than it had been three years ago.  There were no cars about in the parking lot. A church still stood to the left of the B&B. There was still the trickling sound of water in front of them. Roy remembered that a river ran past the B&B and memories he tried to push down flashed for a split second. The cold, the sound of water, the emptiness of the night! He shuddered and like a lid on a pressured pot he tried to suppress the boiling thoughts.
The B&B was engulfed in darkness except for the single light that burned to the right side of the door.
‘Are you sure this is five star accommodation?’ She queried as he unloaded the bags from the boot. She wrapped her arms around her body to keep warm.
‘Yes, I paid a five star price; this will be fun, spooky just how you like it.’

So until I, once again, need to feed this is Julez S Morbius saying keep your necks clean, you never know when I will come calling.
