A very Happy New Year
As we lay in bed, our naked bodies wrapped around each other, I pulled Sandi closer and kissed her softly on her forehead. It was exactly a year ago, on New Year’s Eve, when we had first met.
That night, twelve months earlier, we had both been out as single people to see the new year in with a night of drinking, music and a lavish firework display. I hadn’t gone out to find someone, as I’d been single for that long it was something I was resigned to, and Sandi told me she felt the same but for varied reasons which, at the time, she didn’t want to talk about. In fact, we would probably never have even bumped into each other, if it hadn’t been for the drink fuelled crowd, but now, twelve months on, I was more than grateful for that fateful night.
This year though, after what had been a tumultuous twelve months, we agreed there would be no going out, no excessive drinking and we would just spend the night with each other. I had lost most of my, so-called, friends when I had told them about Sandi, and the fact she was transgender, but it just showed me what type of people they really were and Sandi had no family, so to speak of, just a close circle of friends.
As I rolled over to face Sandi, the alarm on the bedside clock suddenly burst into life, and I kissed her once again.
“It’s almost time baby,” I whispered as she lifted her head, and stared deep into my eyes.
“I can't believe it’s been a year since we met,” she said softly.
“Hopefully there will be many more years of us together,” I said, before kissing her gently on the lips.
“I hope so to,” Sandi replied, as she climbed on top of me, lowered her head and kissed me passionately.
“There’s just one thing,” I said reaching down the side of the bed, for the ring I had placed there earlier, as she pulled her lips from mine. “Will you marry me?”
