Today, 20th November 2012, is a very special and important day in the world of all Transgender persons, both Male to Female and Female to Male, their families and all those connected with the Transgender community all over the world. For today is the one day of the year when the whole community, wherever they may be in the world, comes together to remember those that have died because of WHAT they were NOT WHO they were and it is time for the
HATRED TO STOP !!!!
It would be a honor, to both me and the whole Transgender community, if you would leave a small comment agreeing with the above statement.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance was founded in 1998 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a transgender graphic designer, columnist, and activist, to memorialize the murder of Rita Hester in Allston, Massachusetts.
Since its inception, TDoR has been held annually on November 20 and has slowly evolved from the web-based project started by Smith into an international day of action. In 2010, TDoR was observed in over 185 cities throughout more than 20 countries.
Typically, a TDoR memorial includes a reading of the names of those who lost their lives during the previous year and may include other actions, such as candlelight vigils, art shows, food drives, film screenings, marches, among others. The TDoR is the culmination of Transgender Awareness Week.
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has extensively covered TDoR on its blog over the past few years. GLAAD has also interviewed numerous transgender advocates including actress Candis Cayne, profiled an event at the New York City LGBT Community Center and discussed media coverage of TDoR.

Thank you Julez for bringing this to our attention. Some people forget that a transgender person is still a human being, and should be accepted and treated thus. It is so sad when the opposite occurs
Julez, I was unaware of this day as a special day to remember all transgenders murdered by hate and phobias. Thank you for sharing.
Julez, great piece I want to say thank you for pointing out the tolerance of the LGBT community, and help spread the end of hate against the transgendered community.
To me, they're just human beings. The deserve the love and respect like everyone else.
