INTERVIEW FROM THE CRYPT
First of all I would like to say welcome to The Crypt Karenna and thank you for stopping by today.
Thanks for having me!
So Karenna why don’t
you introduce yourself to my creatures of the night and tell us a little about
yourself.
I’m Karenna Colcroft,
and I’ve been writing fiction since I was about five, and have been making up
stories even longer than that. In 2006, a friend of mine challenged me to write
an erotic scene or short story. As long as there’s no danger involved, I pretty
much always take challenges, so I took that one and surprised myself with the
results. After that I was hooked. My
first erotic romance e-book was published in March 2009, and since then I’ve
had a number of stand-alone e-books published, as well as a few short stories
in anthologies.
I live in the
northeastern US with my two kids, my real-life romance hero husband, and two
cats.
When did you first
begin to write? Was there a specific moment or did something happen to make you
think ‘I could be a writer’?
As I said, I started
writing fiction when I was about five. I learned to read when I was about two
and started making up stories, and even that young I knew I wanted to someday
see my stories in books like the ones I read.
What are you currently
working on? Would you mind giving the readers a quick synopsis in 100 words or
less?
My current work in
progress is an M/M romance novel about a sorcerer who gains magic by taking
pieces of people’s souls during sex. He’s careful to take only tiny pieces, just
enough to fuel his magic, but his fellow sorcerers “soul-rip” humans, taking so
much that the human ends up catatonic or dead. When the hero meets a human
whose soul is particularly appealing for magical purposes, he has to decide
whether to use him or save him.
Where do you draw your
inspiration for your stories, characters and settings?
All over the place.
The sorcerer story I mention above actually developed from a dream my husband
had that he told me about. (He doesn’t write, so if he has good “story dreams”
he passes them along to me.) Sometimes I get ideas from comments made by other
people, sometimes the ideas just come to me and I have no clue from where.
Is there one
particular genre you prefer writing in and is there a genre you would never attempt
and if so why?
I prefer writing
paranormal, though I tend to write mostly contemporary. It’s hard to think of
paranormal plots that haven’t been overdone. I don’t think there’s any genre I
would never attempt, but I wouldn’t
be likely to write historical. There would be too much research involved.
If you weren’t a
writer/ couldn’t write anymore what would you do?
Probably die…I can’t
imagine not writing.
If you could become a
member of the opposite sex for 24 hours what would be the first thing you would
do?
Hmm. I think I would
probably find a willing female to have sex with so I can experience
heterosexual sex from the male perspective, then I would find a willing male to
have sex with so I could experience M/M sex. Then I would make plenty of notes
for my writing.
Which fantasy
creature/being do you like the most?
Currently werewolves,
because I’ve been writing about them.
If you could be your
favourite fantasy figure what would be the first thing you would do?
Search for a partial
cure so that werewolves wouldn’t be obligated to shift at the full moon, but
still could if they chose to.
What scares you the
most?
Spiders, especially
when they’re crawling on my computer.
Favourite film? Worst
film you have ever seen? Favourite book?
I combined those three questions into one because I really
don’t have an answer to any of them. I don’t watch many films, so choosing a
favourite or worst would be difficult. Choosing a favourite book is difficult
too, but for the opposite reason; I read so much I can’t choose just one
favourite.
When you go shopping
what is the one thing that you always HAVE to buy?
Hot cocoa mix. I gave
up drinking coffee back in January, so now I have to have a cup of hot
chocolate in the mornings to settle me into writing for the day.
Going back to
favourite film write an erotic scene featuring the main characters in 100 words
or less.
Since I don’t have a
favourite film, I declare myself exempt from this. Besides, it wouldn’t be as
much fun writing an erotic scene with someone else’s characters as it is with
my own.
And finally, just for
a light hearted end to the interview.
What words would you
want etched on your tombstone ?
“In the end, it’s all
just words.”
Thank you for joining
me today and I would like to wish you all the best in future endeavours.
Thank you! I’ve
enjoyed the interview.
SYNOPSIS
After six months of self-imposed dating
exile, Lissa is ready to get back on the horse. She isn’t looking for a date,
just a one-night fling with the hottest man she can find—and she finds Ross, a
guy who takes control and orders Lissa into one of her wildest fantasies.
When Lissa runs into him again the very
next evening, Ross wants another chance to do what they did last night. And to
continue beyond just one night.
EXCERPT
He yanked her against him and cupped her
ass with both hands. Before she could take a breath he crushed his lips against
hers so hard she felt his teeth through their lips. Her nipples stiffened again
and moisture rushed to her pussy. She hadn’t been touched this way in longer
than she remembered. Her previous lover had prided himself on being gentle,
even when she’d told him that sometimes gentle just flat didn’t do it for her.
This kiss with Ross did all kinds of things
for her. She barely managed to catch her breath but it hardly mattered. Her
body, her libido and her desire were the only things she focused on.
He broke the kiss as abruptly as he’d begun
it and swatted her ass before he let her go. “Preview of coming attractions.
Now let’s find your friend.”
Dazed and hornier than ever, Lissa pushed
her way through the crowd with Ross so close behind her his breath warmed the
skin of her neck below her pixie-cut hair. They dodged elbows, drinks and a
couple of fists as Lissa tried to scan the crowd for Kerri. She hadn’t seen her
friend in at least an hour but she knew Kerri wouldn’t have left without
letting her know. She had to still be somewhere.
After a few minutes Ross clamped his hand
on her shoulder. “Do you have a cell phone?”
“Of course.” She fished it out of the tiny
purse she’d slung across her chest and held it up.
“Text her,” Ross suggested. “This is like
looking for a needle in a haystack and I’m not patient enough for that.” He
again brought her hand to his cock, which felt even harder than before. “Keep
this up and I’ll fuck you on the dance floor.”
A thrill ran through Lissa at the thought
of being taken in public. Her face heated. She’d never been an exhibitionist
either. Apparently the night and Ross were having more of an effect on her than
she’d realized. Or maybe it was just the daiquiri.
She texted Kerri that she was ready to
leave and waited for a reply. She spotted Kerri standing at the edge of the
dance floor just as the response hit her phone and she took Ross’ hand and led
him to her friend.
Kerri’s eyes widened slightly when she saw
Lissa holding Ross’ hand, then she smiled. “I see going out tonight was a good
idea after all. You’re leaving, you said?”
“Yes.” Lissa braced herself for her
friend’s argument.
“Can I speak to you privately?” Kerri’s
glance at Ross clearly told him to get lost.
“I’ll be at the front door.” Ross slid his
hand over Lissa’s ass. “Remember, don’t make me wait too long. Ten minutes and
I’m gone.” He winked and smiled at her. “Probably.”
The last word was all that kept Lissa from
seeing him as a total jerk, though his command sent another frisson of desire
through her. She did like a man who took charge. “I’ll be there,” Lissa
promised. Unless Kerri talks me out of
it. Not that she planned to let her friend talk her out of the one thing
she’d really wanted in the past six months.
Ross walked away without looking back.
Lissa watched him go, admiring his ass in the just-right-tight jeans until she
no longer saw him through the crowd. Then she turned back to Kerri, who was
watching her with an impatient frown. “You just met him tonight,” Kerri said.
“We danced,” Lissa replied. “We kissed. We
fondled. I want him, Kerri.”
So there we go my creatures yet another victim devoured and once again it is time to go in search of the next tasty morsel. This is Julez S. Morbius saying remember to keep your necks clean, you never know when I'll come calling.

So much truth in your tombstone saying Karenna----AND, NO coffee?! OM Goodness... I would be useless without mine.
Great interview!
Dawne P
Thanks for the interview, Julez!
Dawne, I gave up coffee for reasons that made sense at the time...I still don't drink it, but I do sometimes drink diet soda for the caffeine.
Thank you for being such a delightful guest Karenna
