Guest Blog by Robert Wacaster

Having been away or a few days, due to incompetence on the part of my ISP, I am behind in all my postings , interviews and guest blogs, a situation I intend to rectify over the course of this week. If anyone has a book to promote, an idea for a guest blog they would like to do or anything else at all you can get in touch with me at morbius_thelivingvampire@live.co.uk.

And as promised I will now start catching up, with the first of my guest bloggers, and that guest is Robert Wacaster.

Jasper

Hi, my name is Robert Wacaster.  Where do some of the things we write come from?  And probably a better questions would be, where do they sometimes go?  A long time ago I started a book called Frigate: November, but lost interest and tossed it aside.  Months and months later, I picked the story back up and continued on with it.  Now it’s the one book I have that’s selling really well.  But it could have just as easily stayed tossed aside.  Why did I go back and finish that one?  Why not something else?
This brings me to Jasper.  Jasper is a character.  One day I decided I wanted to try my hand at writing horror.  I didn’t just want horror, maybe I had a bad day or something, I wanted blood, horror and fear!  And so I made up Jasper.  He’s an innocent looking blonde kid.  Well, innocent until he turns into a huge, blonde werewolf.  And he’s being kept in a special part of a special prison.  Only certain people know about the special part of the prison and who (or what?) is kept in there.
Well, as the story went on, Jasper had been a good boy for a while and his “guard” agreed to let him out of his cell for a bit and allow him to eat in the main chow hall with all the other regular prisoners.  Under a lot of rifles, of course.  A few other convicts see the cute, little blonde kid and decide they want him for some...entertainment.  And so after bribing one of the more corrupt of the correction officers, Jasper is taken out of his cell, and pushed into an empty gym with three other prisoners.

Excerpt from Caged Rage:

Jasper had no idea why the stupid guard had taken him out of his cell.  The man had played tough, but Jasper could not smell any gun oil.  He knew there were no guns trained on him.  He could however, smell blood, and not the blood from the injured guard in the library.  Fresh blood, fresh prey.  He walked into the middle of the gym and waited for the three humans to show themselves.  Eventually, they came out of the shadows and surrounded him.  They had no idea who, or what he was.
“Hi pretty boy!” One who seemed to be the leader said, “I’m glad you could make our little party!”
“Dinner party.” Jasper smiled.
“If you want to call it that,” The man said, “But you’re going to be the main course.”
The three men started to move in on Jasper.  He didn’t move, didn’t struggle, he just let them take him…at first.  They threw him down onto his stomach and two of the men held his arms down.  The third man began to pull down his pants.
“Are you going to enjoy this, boy?  I know I sure am!” The man laughed.
“Yes, I think I am going to enjoy this!” Jasper laughed along with him.
The man began to climb down on top of him, and Jasper let himself go.  As he began the change, he could feel the strength flow into his arms and legs.  Things happened fast after that.  Jasper’s head was now blonde, shaggy and wolf like.  He turned and bit a huge chunk out of the man on his left’s arm.  The man screamed and fell backwards onto the floor.  In a flash, he then turned to his right and bit out the throat of the man holding his right arm.  He then flipped himself over on top of the man who had been on top of him.
Jasper’s nostrils filled with the man’s fear.  He could smell the blood around him, feel his hunger, he pressed the tip of his wolf like snout to the man’s nose and growled.  The man screamed and Jasper flipped him over onto his stomach.
His voice now came out as a growl, “Bitch party, then dinner!” He let out a wolf like growling laugh, and then as the man screamed for help, howled as the party began.

The two inmates Grantz had paid to start a fight with the officer in the library had done their jobs well.  Although, they hadn’t really started a fight with him, one had distracted him, and then the other had him with a chair.  The chair had connected solidly and the officer went down quickly.  They had taken the time to kick him in the head several times before they had quickly left the library.
As they were walking into the dining area, another officer had noticed blood on their shoes and stopped them.  As he began to question them, they simply both attacked him.  Afraid of the officer finding out what they had done, it had been an attack of desperation.  Things had gone out of control from there quickly.  As they attacked the guard, several other inmates began attacking other guards.  Several shots were fired, and before anyone had known what had happened, several inmates had made it out of the dining area, and up to the watch posts where the armed officers were stationed.  In less than five minutes, the prison had erupted into a full blown riot.

Jasper bit into the shoulder of the man beneath him.  The taste of blood excited him.  It made him want to hunt.  He reached down and grabbed one of the man’s thighs in each of his huge paws and pulled hard, ripping the screaming man into two pieces.  He flung the pieces across the room and then turned towards the one last man.  The man who’s arm he had bitten while they had been holding him down.  The man had run to the gym entrance and was pounding on the door, screaming for help.  Jasper took his time stalking up to the prey.  He enjoyed the smell of the man’s fear, the panicked screams coming from his lips.  He stalked towards the doors and then in a flash, bit off the man’s head.  The screaming stopped instantly, but now sirens began to wail.  Jasper lifted his head and howled.
He prepared himself for the impending fight.  The humans would of course, bring guns with them.  His only chance would be if he could get to them before they shot him.  As long as they were not serious, Jasper knew his wounds would heal quickly.  Silver was too soft of a metal to make into bullets.  At least the kind of silver that would be a serious threat was.  He readied himself in front of the door, finishing the change completely.  Now, a massive, blonde wolf, he stood waiting, but no one came.  The sirens wailed, and beyond them, Jasper could hear people running here and there.  No one seemed to be coming towards the gym.  He could smell panic in the air, but not the kind of panic he might inspire.  He could hear heartbeats speeding up, and even a shot being fired now and then.  But it all seemed to be coming from far away.
Jasper eased his transformation back to part man, part wolf.  As he stood up on his hind legs, he sank his huge claws into the gym door and ripped it from it’s hinges.  He looked out into the hallway.  It was deserted.  He eased himself back to human.  Losing most of his wolf senses, he now felt deaf and dumb.  He quickly undressed the man who’s head he had bitten off, and put on the clothes.  They were bloody, but at least he wouldn’t draw as much attention now.
He began carefully walking down the corridor towards the noises he could hear.  Everything seemed to be leading towards the dining area.

* * *

Ok, what happens next?  WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?  Does Jasper get out of the prison during the riot?  Does he kill Grantz, the corrupt guard?  Does he...

Actually, I don’t know what happens.  Caged Rage has been tossed aside.  I just couldn’t hear Jasper in my head anymore.  At least for now.  It’s even right around Halloween, but I’m working on other things.  Will Jasper’s story ever get finished?  I don’t know.  Right now it’s one of those unfinished stories that all writers seem to have.  Why don’t we finish some of the things we start?  I don’t know.  But maybe someday Jasper will live on!

Thanks Robert for joining me as a guest and I really enjoyed your piece. maybe one day Jasper will live on, and I believe he will but until that day I would like to wish you good luck with a;ll your future endeavours.

This is Julez S. Morbius saying thanks for reading and remember, Keep your necks clean you never know when I'll come calling.
