The Door

The Door

The door had been pissing me off for a few days. No matter which key, out of the huge bunch Mr Jackson had handed me when I first arrived here, would unlock this damn door. Still, that would not matter anymore because now, after a quick visit to the local hardware store, I could see the only way to enter this room in my hand.

Gripping the hammer tightly in my fist I brought it crashing down on the locked door handle and felt relieved, as the door finally opened. Dropping the hammer to the floor I pushed the door fully open and stared into the darkness in front of me. Finally, after days of frustration, I would be able to see what was so important to Uncle Arthur that he had to keep it so securely locked away.

With no light switch against the wall and no idea what was in front of me, I took my phone from my pocket, switched to its torch mode, and found myself standing at the top of a stone stairway. Cautiously I made my way down into the darkness, almost slipping a couple of times, until I reached the last step.

Holding my phone up I found myself, yet again, standing in front of another wooden door. Hoping I didn’t have to make my way back up the stairs to fetch the hammer I reached for the handle, expecting this one to be locked as well, and was surprised when it swung open and lit the room it led to up instantly.

Somehow Uncle Arthur had set the lights to come on as soon as the door opened, only I wished they hadn’t because what was in front of me caused a chill to run through my body, and left me with so many questions that I headed straight back up the stairs as fast as I could.
